Adelaide Escape Room Therapy!

Our October Adelaide trip was planned back in February (I know, too eager), and we had no idea at the time how busy we were going to be at this time of the year due to a variety of circumstances. So as we dragged ours butts to the airport, with J feeling under the weather and E and I utterly agree exhausted, Adelaide was not looking like the best idea, especially as we crammed a lot of rooms into our first couple of days to take advantage of massive weekday discounts.
In hindsight, we should have known — there’s nothing like an escape room holiday to revitalise us! We may have been tired, sick, and feeling physically, mentally and emotionally drained, but as soon as we stepped into an escape room, all of that melted away. Escape room therapy is real!
Anyway, we had a fantastic time in Adelaide. Despite the escape room heavy four-day schedule, we still managed to squeeze in some shopping and a bunch of local attractions, including the National Wine Centre, a bunch of museums, and even the Adelaide Zoo. Would we have preferred to do more escape rooms instead? Of course.
We loved how chill Adelaide was. Everyone was so nice, and best of all, the traffic and parking was heaven for Sydneysiders like us. Everything was basically at most a 10-15 minute drive away, we never got stuck in traffic, and the parking was ample and cheap. The only thing that surprised us was that dining out was just as expensive as Sydney. Damn you, inflation!
As for the rooms we played, they were all very solid. We were initially a little worried because we had just played some of the best rooms in the world in Canada, but we ended up having a fantastic time and enjoyed everything we played. I’ve come to realise that not every escape room needs to have massive sets or mind-blowing tech. Every experience is so different and we can always get something out of an escape room as long as it’s not poorly made. I suppose in some ways it’s like watching the biggest blockbuster or award-winning films but still being able to enjoy indie and B-grade productions.
We played a total of 17 rooms on this trip. We were unfortunately unable to playtest Mindshift's new room, Sir Lance-a-Lot's Quest, but thanks to flexible scheduling and finishing games much faster than the allotted time, we were able to squeeze in 3 extra rooms at different locations. Our only regret was not being able to visit Urban Mysteries, which sadly closed down last year.
It was a very special trip, not only because we managed to set 4 all-time records and make a few more leaderboards, but also because Z, J, and I all hit 200 games played, making us eligible to become TERPECA nominators! More on this in a future post. For now, stay tuned for our Adelaide room reviews!
