We went straight into Project Immersive’s second room, Area 1: Nuclear Enrichment, after completing the excellent Area 1: The Portal. I won’t rehash all the general comments about Project Immersive here. You can read up on that in my previous review here. In short, it lives up to its “immersive” name, the acting from the GMs is great, and the props are literally “movie-quality”.

So what did we think of Area 1: Nuclear Enrichment?

  • Another fabulous game from Project Immersive. This time, the story took us — the contractors — into a dangerous reactor area on the research facility after a disgruntled employee took everything offline.

  • As we were still in Area 1 (the same facility as The Portal), the theming shared some similarities, but also quite a few differences. I liked how the game had familiar vibes and equally impressive aesthetics, but featured contrasting narratives, unique plots, and distinctive puzzles.

  • The puzzles in this room were more in our wheelhouse, requiring the kind of skills we have honed throughout our escape room journey, in addition to some hunt and seek (typically one of our weak points) and task-based activities. There were a couple of things we were required to do that we had never done in another escape room, and players will either love it or hate it.

  • To me, The Portal felt more story-driven, while Nuclear Enrichment had more puzzles and required more traditional puzzle-solving capabilities. However, it wouldn’t surprise me if others felt the opposite way. I also found Nuclear Enrichment to contain more humour and campy fun.

  • The final puzzle was very high-tech and looked extremely cool, though not quite as mind-blowing as we had hoped it would be. There was also a choose-your-own-adventure element to the game that could potentially lead to different outcomes, adding weight to our final decision.

Verdict: Project Immersive delivers another winner with Nuclear Enrichment, a beautiful, fun, and whimsical game with a balanced blend of aesthetics, storytelling, and puzzle-solving. While you don’t need to play one to play the other, I’d recommend playing both rooms at Project Immersive to experience the full spectrum of what they have to offer.
