After the brilliant Mafia experience the previous day, we returned to Adventure Rooms on Bourke Street again for their other highly rated room, The Abandoned Cabin. I know there's a lot of spooky cabin themed rooms around, but this one is the first real supernatural horror one we’ve done (The Cabin at The Cipher Room is serial killer themed).

The first portion of this room was set outside the cabin and was incredible, giving a true sense of immersion with its sound, lighting, and props. Once we got inside, there were more cool puzzles and jump scares, though I would classify them as pretty mild and nothing that freaked out the kids, with the exception of one thing which they left for me to do because they were too chicken.

Everything we saw and experienced inside aligned with the haunted cabin theme, though a lot of things were more homages to horror movie classics or rehashes of horror tropes than anything truly original. That said, it was a lot of fun, keeping the whole family on edge and giggling nervously whenever the scares did get to us.

With a couple of trickier puzzles, it’s not an easy room by any means, but was still much easier than Mafia, and we managed to escape with ample time to spare. The only aspect of the room we felt could be a little stronger was the ending, which was slightly anticlimactic given the many cool moments throughout the rest of the room.

On the whole, however, this was a really awesome experience that opened our minds to the possibility of more horror-themed rooms in the future.
