After a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast, we made our way to Riddle Room to play The Mine, our first for the day. The Mine is Riddle Room's newest room, but the timing made it the most suitable room to tackle first. And boy was it a cracker!
From the moment we entered the first section of the room and saw how professional and sturdy the props looked, I realised this was going to be a good room. And when the voiceovers and tech started working their magic, I knew we were in for a treat.
I didn't expect to see such a high-end production in Canberra that would rival the theming and tech of Sydney's best rooms, which is why The Mine really surprised me. The look and feel of The Mine were fantastic, and there were numerous surprises littered throughout in the form of additional spaces, cool ideas, and cinematic moments.
There were moments of darkness, and a moment of two of apprehension created through clever techniques, though I would not call this a scary room at all. Rather, there's a genuine thrill of adventure that made the experience a whole lot of fun. And there's a decision to be made that may alter the outcome of the game, so make sure you listen carefully!
The puzzles were mostly tech-based, with a few traditional padlocks thrown in for old-school fun. Most of them were quite good and flowed well, though there was one particular puzzle that we were not big fans of, though this might have been because we were overthinking something that was actually quite simple.
The clue system is a hybrid voice of god system we've seen before (at Elude and Adventure Rooms Melbourne), where you ask for a clue out loud and a response would show up on the screen. We ended up needing two clues on the puzzle we struggled with and a third one a little later down the track, which was more than I would have liked!
In all, The Mine is a fantastic new-generation escape room. Riddle Room really leaned into the tech, the sound, and the lighting design to create an immersive adventure that every visitor to Canberra should experience!
