This was our first of three games at Quest Room the first of our Brisbane/Gold Coast trip. Our GM Lex was a hoot, putting on a wild demeanour and accent that was so good that I wasn’t sure if it was an act or just how he was. We were lucky that it was not a busy day and he allowed us to play all three rooms back to back — I’ve noticed that most non-franchise escape establishments tend to be pretty flexible with scheduling and age restrictions, so never be afraid to ask if you want to play a room and adjustments would make life easier for your team.
Here are my thoughts:
Sherlocked was a very solid room with multiple spaces, good theming, and a fine assortment of puzzles that aligned with the theme and era.
As Quest’s first room, it doesn’t have much of a wow factor, but the props and décor — some of which were genuine antiques — matched that of the theme quite well, creating somewhat of an immersive atmosphere when coupled with the sound effects.
The puzzles featured a good mix of locks, mechanical and tech, including some concepts we had seen in other rooms, plus some we had not encountered before. It turned out to be more difficult than we expected and required us to really pay attention with our eyes before we used our hands. For a team with kids who are overly eager to solve the next puzzle, this proved to be a challenge at times.
We ended up asking for two clues in the end to make it out in a little over 41 minutes. In hindsight, we may have been able to do it without the clues, but we didn’t want to take any chances as this has come back to bite us before.

Verdict: A fun room that ticks all the essential boxes of what makes a good escape room. But since it is the oldest room at Quest, it does lack memorable moments and wow factor. A good room to play if you’re a Sherlock or detective genre lover, and good one to start off with if playing multiple rooms at Quest.
