We finished up at Looking Glass Adventures and grabbed a quick bite at Starbucks (I know, I know) before driving over to Daydream Adventures' new Brimley location (they also have an older location on Danforth). Brimley currently has two 75-minute rooms and we played them both, starting with the newer one, Brimley Manor, advertised as a Scooby-Doo-style haunted manor game. So how was it?

• Pretty, pretty, pretty good! This was a gorgeous game, a sizeable room with multiple spaces of different styles, but always in that beautiful Daydream colour palette of bright purples, pinks, blues, and teals.

• The background story is that you are a team of ghost hunters tasked with investigating the haunted Brimley Manor. Despite the theme, I would still say it's family-friendly game as it's humorously lighthearted and the spectres are "friendly ghosts" who are trying to help you instead of scare you. Maybe not for super young kids, but there's no need to worry about jump scares or anything genuinely creepy.

• The set was definitely the biggest strength of the game. It really had that Disney Haunted Mansion vibe and was so pretty to look at. There were so many different props all throughout, and I was told that most of it was handmade by local artists, making it all the more impressive. There was also plenty of lighting and sound effects, adding to the immersion and atmosphere.

• The puzzles were highly varied, but also perhaps the weakest aspect of the game, as there were quite a few process puzzles and designs that didn't always make sense in the space. The signposting was also a little inconsistent, causing us to sometimes not know what to do next. The worst part was that the tech behind the puzzles occasionally took a beat to register, so even when we solved the puzzle correctly, the delay made us think we may have done it wrong. This is not to say the puzzles were bad — they still made us think and were mostly fun — but they were what prevented our experience from rising to that next level.

• Notwithstanding these issues, we managed to complete this 75-minute room with just under 30 minutes to spare and not having to use any hints. It felt rather contradictory because there were enough puzzles that it didn't feel like a short game, yet we never felt like we hit our full stride and actually got stuck on a few of the puzzles more than we would have liked.

• On the whole, as a fan of this kind of supernatural crime theme, I really enjoyed Brimley Manor. The quality theming, aesthetics, tech and effects make it an attractive, immersive, and highly interactive game suitable for families, newbies, and enthusiasts alike.
