We kicked off one of the busiest days of our Canada trip (6 games, 7 hours and 20 minutes of gameplay!) at Looking Glass Adventures. They have a several good games there, but due to time constraints we could only play one. We ended up choosing It Came From the Attic!, which appeared to be an old-school conspiracy theorist game that revolved around UFOs and cryptids like Bigfoot. I grew up as a massive fan of the X-Files and was surprised we had not yet played a game of this theme, so it wasn't a hard decision in the end. Did I make the right choice?
It Came From the Attic is one of the "hidden gems" of our Canada trip, a game that is not as highly touted as perhaps the other flashier, prettier games in Toronto but really hit the spot by delivering a lot of fun, intrigue, and surprising charm.
As paranormal investigators, we headed into the attic of a conspiracy theorist friend who left us a trail of evidence to follow. The game thus involved solving a series of puzzles to uncover the conspiracy — though at some point, there would be an exciting reveal. It definitely brought out my inner Fox Mulder!
I loved the theming of the "attic", which was not fancy but filled with a cool collection of paranormal objects and various newspaper clippings. We've played rooms where a lot of info on the walls was irrelevant or turned out to be red herrings, but here they were utilised well, not only fitting for the theme but also the puzzles.
The puzzles were mostly traditional but they were diverse and cleverly designed. Despite playing a lot of hi-tech rooms, we still enjoy the old-school thrill of number and word locks when they're done right. This game had plenty of locks, mixed with a solid range of thematic low-tech puzzles.
The same went for the special effects, which were more on the low-budget side but nonetheless effective and matched the cheeky and irreverent vibe.
The room was not particularly big, nor did it have a lot of different spaces, but it still had allure because it really leaned into the wackiness of its story and theme. This, combined with fun puzzles and smooth flow, culminated in a rollicking good time. We actually got stuck on the very puzzle of the game for maybe 10 minutes, yet still finished in less than half the time, suggesting a level of difficulty that is good for beginners and younger players.

Verdict: A fun and charming little game that's perfect for paranormal, UFO, and cryptid enthusiasts. Proof that more traditional games can still be just as enjoyable and effective as flashy hi-tech rooms when designed and executed well.
