This was our second of three rooms during our father-and-sons adventure to Scram Parramatta. Despite the name, this was not a horror room and was more of a wizardry magic room. We had previously played The Wizard Chambers at Scram's O'Connell Street venue, which was pretty average, so I was keen to see if this one was any better.
The Witch's Curse was a solid room with some excellent ideas and moments. The initial part of the room looked quite plain from a theming perspective, but like magic, it soon opened up with a slick transition to a much cooler world.
Similar to Scram's other rooms at their Parramatta locations, this one did look a little old, and even the colour scheme was not very appealing, especially in contrast to their new rooms in Penrith. But full credit to Scram's staff and management — there were no broken props or puzzles.
This was marketed as this venue's most difficult room from an escape rate perspective. The first portion of the room was indeed tricky at times, because the puzzles were linear but it was difficult to figure out where to go or what to do next. We managed to figure it out eventually, though I think less experienced teams might get frustrated with the ambiguous signposting.
The best puzzles were in the middle portion of the game, where all the high-tech stuff was. There was one particular multi-phase puzzle that we hadn't seen before and really impressed us.
We got stumped a little bit in the final section — partly because of bad lighting and small fonts, and partly because of poor communication on our part — and decided to ask for a clue instead of using our ample remaining time to figure it out.
